Track the Latest Conditions

February 11, 2018 – Afternoon Report

Another fun weekend of skiing and riding at Stowe is in the books! We had some mixed conditions today with temperatures hovering right above freezing and some mixed precipitation, but overall the skiing was quite good. A little bit of snowfall last night helped refresh conditions from Saturday, especially on natural snow trails. We had some tough visibility at times today, especially on the upper mountain, but the fog and clouds broke pretty often throughout the day.

Conditions on the groomers today started as packed powder and gradually turned into heavier, softer conditions due to the warm weather. We did see some bumps starting to form on groomed runs by the afternoon as the snow softened, but considering the temperatures and skier traffic conditions stayed relatively consistent. There were some firm spots in between the soft bumps, but if you navigated the conditions right you could link soft turns relatively easily all day on the groomers.

Off the groomers conditions the snow was soft, but got a little bit saturated from the light rain and fog layer in the afternoon. In the morning it was smooth, creamy snow, but in the afternoon it did get a little bit grabby here and there. As usual, getting a little moisture in the snowpack will be good in the long run. As temperatures drop tonight that snow will firm up. As we had pretty high skier traffic the fresh snow in the woods and on natural snow trails was packed down quite a bit, so once it firms up tonight we have the perfect base for another big east coast powder day.

Hats off to Green Mountain Academy for hosting a great freeride event today on Lookout. There were over 100 competitors and there was some very entertaining action all day long. It was a great day to ride the Lookout Double simply because it was one of the best vantage points for the competition.

See you on the slopes!
