March 12, 2018 – Afternoon Report
It’s a gorgeous day to be on the slopes at Stowe. Right now we have partly cloudy skies with mild temperatures and calm winds. The clouds are expected to stick around this afternoon, so we may be just about done with sunshine for today, but the skiing is fantastic. Whether you’re on the groomers or on un-groomed terrain the snow is really nice thanks to the abundant accumulation in the past week. What makes it better is we have another storm looming in the forecast this week on Tuesday into Wednesday.
Conditions on the groomers are just about as good as they get now that Stowe has had the opportunity to pack down and groom the fresh snow. Hayride and Nosedive both had wall to wall, perfect packed powder corduroy this morning and we definitely highlights if you were looking for smooth turns. We don’t expect many firm spots to firm today thanks to all the fresh snow and the fact that skier traffic has drastically diminished compared to the weekend.
Off the groomers there’s definitely still soft snow to be found. As mentioned yesterday we’re back to 100% open, which helps spread skiers out so trails don’t get quite as tracked. There’s good coverage in the trees now, especially on the upper half of the mountain, so it was relatively easy to find pockets of untouched snow today as you can go just about anywhere.
The storm that’s expected to arrive later this week is currently forecasted to drop at least 10-20 inches. Keep doing those snow dances! There’s plenty of season left and conditions continue to improve.
See you on the slopes!
